These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

John 16:33 (KJV)

Whether it’s alarming reports on the nightly news or the bruising pain I experience after a long day in my current condition, God tells me to be of good cheer. This world may trouble me, but I can take heart. Why? Christ has overcome the world.

Our source of joy is always this: Christ is victorious over the world, the flesh, and the devil. This is the fountain of our happiness in this world.

Jesus Christ has done everything, first to last, that is involved in bringing you from death in sin to life in glory. Our Savior planned and achieved redemption, called and is keeping you, has justified, and is sanctifying, and will glorify you when you are finished with this world. What a cause for joy!

Colossians 2:13-15 says:

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

Did you hear that? Jesus triumphed, conquered, and overcame. He gives you power to do the same. This is why you can be joyful!

This world may get you down, you may be constantly wrestling against the devil, and your flesh may feel the crunch of older age, but be encouraged by 1 John 5:4,

For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

Take a moment to enjoy all that Christ has done.

Stretch my faith, oh God, to be of good cheer in this dark world. Help me to remember that you are my one and only source of true joy.

    Now Make this Powerful Confession Before You Proceed, I boldly declare that my body is the temple of God and that the Holy
    Ghost is dwelling in me.
    I am cleansed through the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore,
    whosoever wants me to go into captivity shall go into captivity.
    Whosoever wants me to die by the sword shall die by the sword. The
    strangers shall fade away and be afraid out of their close places in
    the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ. They shall lick the dust like
    a serpent, they shall move out of their holes like worms of the earth,
    they shall be afraid of the Lord our GOD.
  17. I refuse to harbour any strange property in any department of my
    body in the name of Jesus.
  18. I command the evil effect of any strange hand laid upon my life to be
    nullified in the name of Jesus.
  19. I vomit and pass out of my system any satanic deposit in my head,
    stomach, reproductive organs and legs in the name of Jesus. (Remain
    silent after
    20 such aggressive commands and breathe in and out
    several times, then repeat the command as you transfer your hand to
    a different part of the body.)
  20. Let every hidden sickness depart now in the name of Jesus.

LORD, I thank you for answered prayers

In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will.

Ephesians 1:11

It’s one thing for God to deliberately let something awful happen for reasons we may not understand, but it would be another for God to wish he could have prevented it, but have one hand tied behind his back.

Either God rules, or Satan sets your life’s agenda and God is limited to only reacting. In which case, the Almighty would become the devil’s clean-up boy.

Although God would manage to patch things up, your suffering would be meaningless.

One Christian writer who believes that God has little to do with the specific circumstances that come your way expressed it like this: “In 1982 someone laced capsules of the pain reliever Tylenol with cyanide and then put them back on store shelves in Chicago.

Seven people died after swallowing poisoned pills, the families of those seven people no doubt agonized trying to find some shred of meaning in why God or fate or luck had picked on their loved ones, of all the people in Chicago.

We can concoct some answer and perhaps take some small comfort in it, but sadly, there was no meaning in those deaths. Each was a bizarre, horrible coincidence, nothing more. Therein lies the tragedy.”

No, the real tragedy is that any Christian would settle for such darkness with the light of the Bible shining so clearly.

If God didn’t control evil, the result would be evil uncontrolled. Our suffering has meaning because “…his kingdom rules over all” (Psalm 103:19).

We may not grasp it this side of eternity, but if his kingdom rules over all—and it does—that includes the tiniest details of your life. Praise God that evil has a governor: our great and wise God.

Lord God, I am grateful that you purpose and permit. You give suffering meaning simply because you and you alone are in control!

Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your day lime and for Your night time. I know
You never sleep but constantly watch over me. I know You have placed Your
guardian angels all around me.
Lord, I give You all my cares and my worries of the day. I give You all my
fears.

Satan, I bind you from me in the name of Jesus. All spirits of fear,
especially fear of the dark, you are bound from me in the name of Jesus. I
rebuke the fear of fire and fear of intruders in the name of Jesus. Spirits of insomnia, nervousness, tension, worry, I cast you out in the name of Jesus.
Lord, please go into the darkest recesses of my mind, into my
subconscious, into the dream area, and heal all painful memories and
trauma.

Lord, I ask You LORD, to fill me with Your divine love, Your peace, Your calmness.
I pray You will allow me to sleep soundly all night long and wake up

For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith…Do your best to come to me quickly, for Demas, because he loved this world, has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me.

2 Timothy 4:6-7;
2 Timothy 4:9-11

The book of Acts records the golden days of Paul’s ministry. It seemed no effort for him to be wide awake at midnight in a jail cell, praying despite his biting chains, and singing hymns at the top of his lungs. Scripture tells us the jail doors flew open wide and everyone’s chains fell off. Prisoners applauded him and the jail keeper, saved instantly, invited him to his house. Things were looking up!

But if you look closer at his last epistle, you see a softer side. Paul was in jail again when he wrote 2 Timothy. But this time there was no miracle, no escape. Winter was approaching and Paul felt old and tired. Deserted by his friends, he struggled against sickness. His friend Trophimus was sick, yet Paul couldn’t do a thing to heal his friend. He couldn’t even heal himself!

Yet the old apostle didn’t allow discouraging circumstances to get him down. Things were different than the “golden days of old,” yet he hung on courageously to God.

Some days you feel life is on the up-swing, other days it’s flat. Sometimes you sense the miracle in your life, other times life seems very ordinary. Are you energized today to meet a challenge head-on? Or do you feel tired and trapped? Life’s circumstances can make you feel like a yo-yo, but don’t allow the “ups and downs” to get you down. Commit to God to fight the good fight…finish the race…keep the faith.

Give me strength, Lord, to finish well and not allow life’s disappointments, along with age, aches and pains to dampen my trust.

Romans 8:28

If you believe God is sovereign (and I hope you do), then you will say things like, “God plans, ordains; he allows or permits things to happen.”

But know this: Even when the devil asks permission of God to wreak havoc, it’s not like he twists God’s arm until the Lord caves in, saying, “Okay, okay; back off; cause calamity if you must, but this far and no further.”

No, God is never forced into granting the devil permission. God never runs behind Satan with a mop and bucket, hoping to clean up the things the devil’s ruined.

He’s never frustrated or hindered by satanic schemes; truth is, he actually uses devilish deeds for his own glorious ends –like at the cross where God turned the world’s worst murder into the world’s only salvation. If he did that? You can trust his purposes in your suffering.

Isaiah 61:7:
7 For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.

Shame and disgrace is not your portion as a child of redemption. Jesus paid the price for your redemption, He suffered shame so that you and I will never suffer shame, therefore every shame and disgrace the devil have placed in your life, I declare your total deliverance in Jesus name Amen!!!. We shall be engaging in deliverance prayer against shame and disgrace.

What is shame? This is simply defined as a state of being humiliated by people or circumstances.

Disgrace is simply defined as public humiliation by people or circumstances. To suffer shame is not Gods will for you, for every shame that you have suffered as a believer, my God shall give you double restoration in Jesus name.

Shame and disgrace is an affliction of the devil, therefore we must tackle it spiritually. This deliverance prayer against shame and disgrace is a weapon of spiritual warfare to put the devil in his place. Through this prayer, we are going to be destroying every affliction of the devil in our lives that brings us shame and disgrace.

  1. Father, I confess that, in the past, I had held unforgiveness, sometime
    bitterness and resentment in my heart against certain people who had
    hurt or disappointed me, have mercy and forgive me in Jesus’ name.
  2. I also renounce and confess as sin any oath which I have made to any
    false god and any idolatry in which I have been involved.
  3. I now recognise this as a sin and confess it as sin, for You have said in
    Your Word that if we confess our sin, You are faithful and just to forgive us our sin and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9)
  4. I do now forgive the following people, whom I can remember, who
    have hurt or disappointed me. (Mention names of those who come to
    your mind.) I now freely forgive all these people and ask You to bless
    them if they are living. I also forgive myself for all my many faults
    and failures, for You have freely forgiven me.
  5. Thank You Father for freedom from the load of unforgiveness,
    bitterness and resentment in Jesus’ name.
    Father, I confess to You, that in the past, through ignorance, through
    curiosity or through wilfulness, I have come into contact with certain
    sinful acts. I now recognise this as sin and confess it as sin, claiming
    forgiveness in the name of Jesus.
  6. Satan, I rebuke you in the name of Jesus, and I am closing any door
    which I or my ancestors may have opened to you and your demons in

  7. I renounce satan and all his demons, I declare them to be my enemies
    and I command them out of my life completely in the name of Jesus.
  8. In the name of Jesus Christ, I now claim deliverance from any and all
    evil spirits which may be in me (Joel 2:28). Once and for all, I close
    the door in my life to all occult practices and command all related
    spirits to leave me now in Jesus’ name.
  9. I break every curse of mental destruction in the name of Jesus.
  10. I release myself from the hold of any evil strongman in the name of
    Jesus.

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Galatians 6:2

Today as we wrap up our Thanksgiving weekend, I want to remind you of a timeless truth that’s needed in our isolated and broken world: God never intended that we do life alone.

We need the love and care of others, as much as others need us to love and care for them. Christian love – that is, love that follows the way Jesus loved – is always sacrificial.

Christian love goes out of its way, thinks nothing of going the extra mile or giving the extra effort. Christian love requires and demands something of us. It asks us to give in a way that costs us something.

I thought about this when my friend Kenzie invited me into the kitchen to help her make her Carolina cornbread. Inviting me into the kitchen is asking for trouble.

With me sitting, there’s not even room to open the refrigerator door. There is not even enough space for me to turn around – I always have to back out of my kitchen.

And so I gracefully declined, but Kenzie insisted, “My Dear, I want us to make cornbread together! It’ll be fun, us doing it together.”

She was right. I read aloud the recipe to her, I told her when the eggs were whipped enough, when the oven was hot enough, when the batter was mixed enough, and how much to pour into the muffin tins.

All the while, we joked and laughed. I felt as though I were doing the baking that day. It was me, simply borrowing Kenzie’s capable hands (and her mother’s recipe!).

Kenzie hails from the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and she is quite the cook. Her part of the country is southern-sweet and famous for its down-home cooking.

One bite of that creamy cornbread is – as Kenzie put it – like “getting hugged by your southern grandma!” My young friend could have easily whipped up the cornbread without nearly tripping over me, but as we split the baking tasks between us, we saw a little bit of Jesus in our joy of friendship. Carrying each other’s burdens shined light on the love we each had for our Savior.

So, as we close out this Thanksgiving season, look for ways to extend the graceful spirit of this heartwarming week into the lives of others – others who have disabilities.

Invite the elderly, the single parent, the widow in the apartment next door, or the college student far from home; invite them into community with you.

Joys are multiplied when burdens are shared – it’s something Jesus would want you to do.

Pray with me: Thank you, Lord, for how you have created us to need others and how that opens the door to community.

Our world is filled with loneliness and brokenness, so please open my eyes and my heart to the needs of those around me – help me to create community where there is none, and thank you for the grace to do.
