Daily Devotional “Don’t Take the Glory of God”
Be Different!
November 07, 2026
Acts 12:23, “And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.”
God’s glory is so important that we must never attempt to take it for ourselves.
Scripture teaches us that God created us for His glory.
In Acts 12:21–23, King Herod delivered an impressive speech that captivated his audience.
The people responded by shouting, “It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.”
Instead of rejecting this praise and giving glory to God, Herod accepted it.
Immediately, an angel of the Lord struck him, and he died.
Herod’s experience teaches us that success, influence, and recognition must never cause us to forget the One who deserves all the glory.
Here are three reasons why you must always give glory to God when success comes your way:
1 Everything Belongs to God
Psalm 24:1 says, “The earth is the LORD’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”
Everything we possess ultimately belongs to God. Our abilities, opportunities, resources, and achievements are made possible through His grace.
When you recognise God as the source of your blessings, you develop humility and a greater sense of responsibility towards what He has entrusted to you.
Never become so successful that you begin to believe everything you have accomplished is entirely the result of your own strength.
Remember that you are a steward of God’s blessings, and always give Him the glory.
2 Taking God’s Glory Can Lead to Destruction
Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”
Pride is dangerous because it causes people to overestimate their abilities and forget their dependence on God.
Herod’s experience demonstrates the seriousness of accepting honour that belongs to God.
When success produces arrogance, it can lead to poor decisions, damaged relationships, and eventual downfall.
Therefore, remain humble regardless of how much you achieve.
Acknowledge God’s grace and never allow success to make you proud.
3 People’s Praise Can Put You on a Pedestal
Acts 12:22 says, “And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.”
Herod’s downfall followed the excessive praise he received from the people.
It is often said that only statues survive on pedestals.
When people exalt you to the point where they consider you flawless, you risk becoming proud and losing sight of your limitations.
You may not always control what people say about your achievements, but you can control how you respond to their praise.
Receive appreciation with humility, acknowledge those who have contributed to your success, and continually direct the glory to God.
Child of God, as you apply the principles of God’s Word and experience success, never forget the One who makes your achievements possible.
Whether you receive recognition, promotion, prosperity, or influence, remain humble and give God the glory.
Remember, the higher God lifts you, the more important it becomes to walk in humility before Him.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for every blessing, opportunity, and achievement in my life.
Keep my heart humble and help me never to take the glory that belongs to You.
May Your name continually be glorified through my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
