Be Different!

“There is another who testifies of Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true . . . .

. . . . And the Father who sent Me, He has testified of Me.

You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form.

You do not have His word abiding in you, for you do not believe Him whom He sent” (John 5:32, 37–38).

Of infinitely greater importance than any human testimony is the fact that the Father who sent Jesus has testified about Him.

The Gospels record two specific occasions when the Father gave verbal testimony concerning His Son: at His baptism and at His transfiguration.

On both occasions, a voice from heaven declared, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased” (Matthew. 3:17; cf. Matthew. 17:5).

Jesus’ statement, “You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form,” was a further rebuke to the unbelieving Jews.

No one can see God in the full glory of His infinitely holy essence (Exodus. 33:20; John 1:18).

Nevertheless, throughout Israel’s history, there were occasions when God audibly or visibly interacted with His people.

He spoke to Moses (Exodus. 33:11) and the prophets (Hebrews. 1:1).

He also appeared to Jacob and others in physical manifestations of His presence (Genesis. 32:30).

Yet the unbelieving Jews of Jesus’ day, who possessed both the Old Testament Scriptures . . . .

. . . . and the full revelation of God in Jesus Christ, refused to listen to Jesus, God’s final revelation to mankind (Hebrews. 1:2).

On the other hand, those who love the Son have an internal witness from God in their hearts concerning the identity of Jesus.

Ask Yourself

How has the presence of His Word in your thoughts and meditations spoken God’s wisdom to you at a critical point in your life?

What differences have you noticed in your judgment and perspective when the Scriptures are readily . . . .

. . . . available in your heart, and the Spirit has an abundance of biblical truth within you to work with?
